Syngenta introduces Pink Cauliflower via T.H Clements into UK

Syngenta in collaboration with T.H Clements are introducing a pink coloured cauliflower during August launching into a limited number of stores.  The pink cauliflower has been positively tested in qualitative consumer research.  The aim of this action is to obtain further quantitative research data amongst UK consumers via one of the largest supermarket organisations.

The product will be available for consumers in August 2011.

The pink cauliflower has been created using traditional breeding methods by crossing in the natural variation in colours present within the brassica family, where also red cabbage, Brussels sprouts and broccoli belong.  Alongside Syngenta's white, purple, green and orange cauliflower varieties, we have now added the pink colour to this range to diversify this popular vegetable even further.

Pink cauliflower

Pink coloured cauliflowers can be offered in florets within a mix of other colours or as a whole head.  Consumer studies have taught us that this colour is at its most appealing when it is mixed with other cauliflower colours.  The best taste for this pink cauliflower is achieved when cooked in a steam oven or pan.

Alongside the UK introduction on a consumer level, several grower trials are running in Europe to conclude on the variety behaviour in different soils and conditions.  This will allow us to introduce and expand to a multiple of markets throughout the continent.  The large scale introduction in Europe is planned for 2012.
